CSS transform Property

The transform property applies a 2D or 3D transformation to an element such as translate, rotate, scale etc.

To use multiple transformations, separate each transformation with a space.

CSS Demo: transform

transform: translate(0, 0);
transform: rotate(180deg);
transform: scale(2);
transform: skew(30deg, 20deg);
transform: scale(0.5) translate(-50%, -50%);

Technical Details

Default value "none"
Applies to transformable elements
Inherited no
Computed value as specified
Animatable yes See animatable properties. Demo
Version CSS3
JavaScript syntax object.style.transform = "skew(22deg, 10deg)" Demo

CSS Syntax:

transform: none|transform-function|initial|inherit;

The following example shows how to use transform property:

Run code

Browser compatibility

The numbers in the table specify the first browser version that fully supports the transform property.

Numbers followed by -webkit-, -moz-, -o- and -ms- specify the first version that worked with a vendor prefix.

transform (2D) 36
4 -webkit-
3.5 -moz-
15 -webkit-
10.5 -o-
3.2 -webkit-
9 -ms-
transform (3D) 36
12 -webkit-
10 23
