CSS font-family Property

The font-family property specifies the font for an element.

CSS Demo: font-family

font-family: Lato, sans-serif;
font-family: "Lucida Console", Courier;
font-family: serif;
font-family: monospace;

The font-family property can hold several font names as a "fallback" system. If the browser does not support the first font, it tries the next font, and so on. Start with the font you want, and end with a generic family , to let the browser pick a similar font in the generic family, if no other fonts are available.

Note: If the name of a font family is more than one word, it must be in quotation marks, like: "Helvetica Neue".

More than one font family is specified in a comma-separated list:

div {
   font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;
}

Note: Single quotes must be used when using the "style" attribute in HTML:

<p style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;">This is an example of a "Helvetica Neue" font.</p>

The names of generic-family: "serif", "sans-serif", "cursive", "fantasy" and "monospace".
